The film was inspired by my childhood experience. My father was running a karaoke, where I spent many New Years since we didn’t meet often during the year. Nameless oil paintings and half naked sculptures were everywhere in the place. I usually sneaked out when my father didn’t pay attention, and lingering in the space. The karaoke in its certain time and space had its unique flavor - eroticism, bickering, drunkenness and violence. Together with Renaissance sculptures and oil paintings, it formed a unique paradise for me. The film was an excavation and reproduction of my deepest memory, a journey of sincere self-reviewing. At the same time, the family problems it presented were not rare in China. I wanted to find out how to face life after experiencing the inevitable disillusionment through A Jie in the film.
