The Intrusion of Letters

Shuttling through different transportations, several Chinese students wander around different places in Boston, from crowded downtown to calm outskirts. We don’t know the relationships between them, only know part of their daily routines, and where they are. We can see them on the way to somewhere, look like an encounter, a gathering, or a separation will happen to them, then they disappear in the frame. Life seems to be going back to normal, but certain undercurrents are still hidden in those stagnant slices of everyday time.

The film itself is a combination of landscape film and narrative film. I take some of the narrative elements in the original script out and blend it with some static depiction of the cityscapes in Boston, and some of my personal experience about living in Boston. When you are living in a foreign city, especially during the post-pandemic time, the social interaction between people is really strange and there’s always a sense of alienation between self and others. Eventually, It is a film about where have you been, what did you just see, and what did you just forget.
